Former Fairmont Senior State Championship Coach Corey Hines New Women's Hoops Coach at Salem

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 21, 2025

With the spring weather finally settling in, there is some big news coming out of the Valley of Learning regarding the future of the Tigers' women's basketball program. The Salem University Athletic Department is proud to welcome Corey Hines as the new women's basketball coach here at Salem.

Corey Hines comes to Salem with a wide range of experience in the state and region. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach at Glenville State University beginning in 2023. Prior to Glenville State, he had an impressive 13 year stint as the head coach for girl's basketball at Fairmont Senior High School just up the road in Fairmont, West Virginia. He led the Polar Bears to 2 state championships, over 200 career wins, 4 conference championships, 6 sectional championships, and 6 regional championships. On top of his coach duties, he also served in teaching and administrative roles for the Marion County School District during that time.

"Coach Hines brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success from both Glenville State and Fairmont Senior High School. His leadership, vision, and deep ties to the state's athletic community make him an outstanding fit for our program. Throughout the hiring process, Coach Hines stood out not only for his knowledge of the game, but also for his ability to connect with student-athletes and build a strong, winning culture," said Athletic Director Alex Joseph.

Hines is excited to be coaching at Salem.

"First, I want to thank everyone that played a role in allowing me this opportunity," said Hines. "Everyone I met at Salem from President Paul Weber to the Athletic Director Alex Joseph down to the cafeteria staff and academic leaders showed me Salem is a special place with a lot of hard working people, and I am excited to represent them in leading Salem women's basketball."

Hines brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the Salem Tigers program.

"I live by the quote 'Motivation is always the key, and hesitation and doubt are the doors it unlocks.' End of the day, every coach loves a challenge, and this situation is going to need all hands on deck. However, we are fortunate that we have a lot of good coaches and administrators here at Salem. I know that we can pull together and get this program moving in the right direction," he said.
