Bridgeport added to its state championship hardware this afternoon as the girls cross country team captured the Class AAA state title at Cabell Midland High School in Ona.

The state title for the girls is the first in program history. The closest the team came was a runner-up finish in 2018.

Bridgeport ended the meet with 65 points to easily get the win. Elkins finished second with 105 poits, while Herbert Hoover came in third with 106 points.

"All season, the hope was to place five girls in the top 25 at the state meet. We managed to place five in the top 20, which was a dream scenario," said Coach Nathaniel Lutyens. "The way this team has worked hard, overcome challenges, and competed all season has been exemplary. I am blessed to coach these young ladies."

Freshman Aria Selario led the Indians by finishing fourth overall. She posted a time of 19 minutes, 22.2 seconds.
Bridgeport's next three runners to cross came in order. Beth Dankiewicz came in 14th with a time of 20 minutes, 55.76 seconds. Ashley McBrayer was 15th with a time of 20 minutes, 56.33 seconds. After that, Mikaela DeMoss came in 16th with a time of 21 minutes, 4.21 seconds.

Isla Tobrey rounded out the top five runners that scored for the Tribe. She finished in 21 minutes, 13.19 seconds. All five of the Indans runners completed the race in the top 20 with Tobrey coming in 20th.

More than 100 student-athletes competed in the race.
