Season-Opening Event at Pennsboro Speedway has been Cancelled as Result of "Unexpected Damage"

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 19, 2025 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Those who oversee the Pennsboro Speedway are hoping that the cancellation of its season-opening event set for this coming weekend will not reverse the momentum caused after reopening last year.

The historic race track shut down in 2002. However, last year it hosted its first major race in more than two decades. One set for this weekend, however, is not happening, according to a post of the Pennsboro Speedway Facebook page.

The post reads as follows:

"The Outhouse 25, originally scheduled for May 25-26, 2025 at Pennsboro Speedway in Pennsboro, WV, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

"While this news is unfortunate, it comes on the heels of an incredible comeback event in October 2024 that reminded everyone just how special Pennsboro Speedway truly is. Since then, the Ritchie County Fairboard team has worked tirelessly to continue the facility’s revitalization. However, a tough winter caused unexpected damage to the track, essential lighting materials remain delayed in shipping, and a wet spring has slowed repair and construction efforts—making it impossible to complete the necessary work in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

"XR Events will continue to monitor progress and share updates on future events at Pennsboro Speedway."
