The Bridge Scheduled to Host First-Ever Boxing Event

By Jeff Toquinto on July 09, 2026

The promise to bring new programs to The Bridge Sports and Recreation Complex is still being met as officials have announced a first for the facility this month

Two Saturdays from now, The Bridge will be playing host to its first-ever boxing event. It is scheduled for Saturday, July 18.

The event is scheduled to open doors at 3 p.m. Action is estimated to wrap up at 10 p.m.

Action will take place inside the gymnasium area, where past Mixed Martial Arts events, have been held. New Line Cagefighting, which also promotes boxing, has promoted the past MMA events in Bridgeport (that have featured a few boxing events) and will handle the first-ever boxing only event at The Bridge.

“They have held three events previously here, but it was a combination of mainly MMA events and some boxing,” said Chase Robey, The Bridge Assistant General Manager. “The promoter has found success in hosting boxing only events and we’re trying it hear. We’ve had very good turnouts for past events with them and are expecting this to be the same.”

Robey said it will be a full lineup. He said the card will feature professional and amateur bouts.

USA Boxing has six matches with local youth boxers at 4 p.m. Follwoing an intermission, the main card will get started at 6 p.m. with roughly 20 fights set.

“This is part of our plan to bring different events to the venue. It’s not only good for the community, but this is good for our staff to prepare for something new,” said Robey. “They love what they do, but it can get monotonous to do the rinse and repeat cycle of similar tournaments every week. I think it will be a good thing for our community and our staff.”
