Trio of BHS Wrestlers Place at WSAZ Invitational; Summers Remains Undefeated and Top-Ranked

It’s a rare weekend off for the Bridgeport High School wrestling team but the Indians will make up for it next week.
First, the Indians will travel to University for a meet on Wednesday then on Friday through Saturday, BHS will be host for the Big 10 Conference meet – the first actual home event in several years.
The Indians are coming off an appearance at the WSAZ Invitational in Huntington where Kamar Summers continued his dominant senior season.
Summers, the top-ranked heavyweight in the state, remained undefeated in the 285-pound weight class, taking first place with five victories.
He pinned Braxton County’s Conner Facemire in just 42 seconds in his opening-round match. His second match was over even quicker as he pinned Linsly’s Anderson Palian in 27 seconds.
In his third match, Summers picked up an 8-0 major decision against Oak Hill’s Colton Naylor.
Summers took care of Parkersburg South’s Brycen Arthur in the semifinals with a 3-1 decision and secured first place with a pinfall victory against Spring Valley’s Connor McCann in 4:24.
Two other Indians placed at the WSAZ’s with Timmy Jeffress finishing eighth and Johnny Knight picking up a runner-up finish.
Knight, battling in the 126 weight class, pinned Linsly’s Lucca Troullos in 44 seconds in his opening-round match. He then pinned Parkersburg’s Simon Inboden in 53 seconds.
His third victory was 3-2 decision over Woodrow Wilson’s Tyler Roark. In the semifinals, Knight took down Huntington’s Garrin Arthur via pinfall in 1:42.
Knight’s loss in the championship round came via pinfall at 1:12 against Damon Landreth from West Henderson High School out of North Carolina.
Jeffress, competing in the 165-pound weight class, scored a 14-6 major decision against Riverside’s Noah Franklin in his first match. He then was pinned by Parkersburg South’s Cole Middleton in 4:27.
Jeffress bounced back by pinning East Fairmont’s Grady Brown in 4:27 and followed with another pinfall victory, against Martinsburg’s Terrell Cofield, in 4:12.
Next for Jeffress was a pinfall loss to Hurricane’s Kameron Phillips in 57 seconds. He then wrapped things up with a pinfall loss to Fairland, Ohio’s Will Callcoat.
Bridgeport’s Connor Arnett also competed for the Tribe in Huntington but was forced out with an injury.
Competing in the 138 bracket, Arnett pinned Clay County’s Ethan Quinn in 1:17, lost by technical fall to Parkersburg South’s Ryan Martin and pinned Herbert Hoover’s Damien Hall in 7:38 before the injury came in a bout against Winfield’s Noah Mace.
