Two Former BHS Baseball Standouts Earn All-MEC Honors

The Mountain East Conference has announced its 2022 baseball postseason award winners and all-conference teams following a vote of the league’s head coaches.
 
 Notre Dame College shortstop Ben Ross highlighted the MEC major awards as the 2022 Player of the Year, while Glenville State’s Adam Riggleman was named the league’s top pitcher.The MEC postseason honors continued with Charleston’s Kyle West earning freshman of the year accolades. First-year Fairmont State head coach Matt Yurish was voted the MEC Coach of the Year.
 
Two former Bridgeport High School standouts made the all-conference team in Logan Smith and Nate Paulsen.
 
Smith, a redshirt senior, was chosen as a second-team pitcher after leading the Falcons in starts with 12 and posting a 4-2 record with an ERA of 3.13 with 44 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.
 
Paulsen, a freshman at West Virginia State, earned honorable mention status. He started every game for the Yellow Jackets this year and hit .296 with four home runs and 16 RBIs.
 
Yurish, Fairmont State’s first year head coach, was named the 2022 MEC Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to a 27-20 overall record and a share of the MEC Northern Division Title this season. The Falcons went 22-10 in conference play. Yurish helped the Falcons return to the postseason for the first time since 2019 as the second seed in the North Division during this weekend’s MEC Baseball Tournament.
 
Three other Fairmont State players earned all-MEC honors in former Grafton standout Zach Musgrove (first team), Vince Sabatino (honorable mention) and Connor Cramer (honorable mention).
