WVU Medicine UHC Junior Golf Championship Returns to Bridgeport Country Club for 2nd Year in July

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 23, 2026

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is set to return to Bridgeport Country Club in 2026 for the WVU Medicine United Hospital Center Junior Championship. The event marks its second year after a successful debut in 2025.

The tournament will be held from July 13-16, 2026, at Bridgeport Country Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

In its first year, the tournament made an immediate impact both on and off the course.

Nearly $20,000 was raised for local charities through the support of WVU Medicine United Hospital Center and numerous local partners in the community.

The buy in from the membership at Bridgeport Country Club, the surrounding community and the tournament planning committee were apparent.

These efforts were showcased through the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament which provided a unique opportunity for amateur golfers from the surrounding community to support the AJGA while enjoying a day on the course alongside golf’s next generation.

“The community really stepped up to support the tournament both financially and by donating their time volunteering. The tournament relies on both, and we are very appreciative of everyone’s support. To be able to provide an avenue for our local WV Jr. Golfers to compete at the highest level and raise money for charity is a win-win for our local community and the state. I am excited to come back again this year and work with all the sponsors and volunteers," Chris Kerr, AJGA Volunteer Chair, said.

The tournament also set its own hospitality standard as it offered special tee gift packages for players and hosted a welcome reception for all families to attend. Due to these efforts, the event earned nominations for the AJGA’s Hospitality Award, Tournament of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Bridgeport Country Club continues to provide a strong setting for AJGA competition and is supported by a dedicated local committee. Head Golf Professional Mike Gervais was recognized for his leadership with a nomination for the AJGA’s 2025 Golf Professional of the Year Award.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome the AJGA back to Bridgeport Country Club for year two of this championship. The buy-in from our membership is what sets this event apart and helps create a welcoming environment for everyone involved. It’s especially meaningful to provide junior golfers, particularly our local players, the opportunity to compete on a national stage right here at home,” Mike Gervais, Head Golf Professional at Bridgeport Country Club, said.

The AJGA invites the Bridgeport community and surrounding areas to get involved and support the event. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including timing station, water rover, spotter and registration roles. To sign up, please visit volunteersignup.org/R7PHF.

The tournament week will begin with a Qualifier on Sunday, July 12.

Player registration and a practice round will take place Monday, July 13, followed by a Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament.

Tournament rounds will be played July 14–16, with the event concluding with an awards ceremony immediately following the final round.
