The Grapevine: A Look at Several Upcoming Events as Well as Several Birthday Wishes, including Twins

By Rosalyn Queen on September 17, 2020 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

I hope that the continued reporting about the quarantine is of,f but I hear that we should be hunkering down for fall and winter.  I am trying to observe the recommendations and hope that you are too.  As I was instructed I did get my flu shots and will get my shingles shot next week.  There seems to be no concrete evidence that they are helpful but then there is no evidence that they are not.  So to  be on the safe side why not get them.

This past week the PWA had their board and membership meeting. Although there were not many in attendance we did conduct business.  The main mission of the PWA is to operate our food pantry, and our report indicated that we have been supplying a lot of food for local families.  While we are operating our food pantry thIs dictates that we must keep our building open and we have the daily expenses of operation.  Because of the pandemic our funding has become very slow.  We depend on our rentals but they have almost become extinct because of the number limitations.

Our parking rentals have decreased because most individuals are working from home.  In order to increase our income we will be sponsoring the following events.  We assure you we will be following the guidelines for the quarantine.  Masks and six feet apart. On Oct. 3 we will be having an outdoor fall bizarre.  Anyone interested in renting a table should call 304-624-6881.

On Oct. 9. we will have our Celebrate America Women of Distinction luncheon.  Those women to be honored are Cathy Titus, Cheryl Mihaulic, Rosemary Kane, Carrie Hill, Becky Sands, Mickey Petitto, Rita Robinson, Annette Wright, Angela Knight, and Paula Flint.  This event is sponsored by Davis Funeral Home.  It will be at noon at the Uptown Event Center.

A Holiday BakeSale will be held at the Center on Dec. 4.  Each purchase of holiday fudge or holiday mix will receive a genuine Fiesta Bowl..These would make wonderful gifts for teachers and friends.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, I will be hosting a Cancer Survivors dinner at the Center. Advance reservations must be made. The American Cancer Society is in charge of this event. For information call 304-624-6881. A social hour begins at 5 p.m.

I urge all PWA members to support the listed events.

A very happy birthday to Dixon Pruitt and his sister, Lisa, to my friend Becky Sprout and to Dan Fisher.

Stay healthy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.
