The Grapevine: Celebration Set for Cancer Survivors; Event Featuring Man who Beat Pancreatic Cancer

By Rosalyn Queen on July 29, 2021 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It is that time of year when, once again, I will be hosting the Cancer Survivor Dinner.  Last year I started this tradition to honor all of those individuals, like myself, who has survived cancer.  Cancer is a terrible battle and those who have been diagnosed with it wonder if they will ever join the ranks of the survivors.

After battling breast cancer for four years, I came out on top of the battle as a survivor.  Last year I decided I wanted to tell my story and to hear the stories of other individuals who had won the race.  I felt that the best way for me to do this was to host a dinner and invite all those who had fought the same battle as me and to join in an evening of fellowship sharing our stories.

This year on Friday, August 6, I will be hosting the dinner at the Uptown Event Center on 305 Washington Avenue in Clarksburg.  I have been working with Carmen Hathaway and the American Cancer Society.  It is also in conjunction with the Relay For Life of Harrison County.

Activities for the evening will begin at 5 p.m. with registration for the Survivors.  Dinner will begin at 6 p.m.  Keynote speaker for the dinner will be James Morley.  He has been the Chaplain at United Hospital Center since 2005.  His chaplain residency was completed at University of Virginia Medical Center.  He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church. He is a pancreatic cancer survivor.

Following dinner there will be an opening for the Luminaries Ceremony.  A closing will be held at 8:30 p.m.

I encourage all my fellow survivors to attend this dinner.  It is indeed my privilege to host you.  RSVP to Carmen Hathaway with the American Cancer Society.

I have supported Bonnie’s Bus and I urge you to be sure and get your mammograms and any other tests you need to continue being listed as a survivor.

Take care and hope to see you on August 6.  Until next week “Now You Have heard It Through The Grapevine.”
