The Grapevine: Latest Review in "Roz's Book Club"

By Rosalyn Queen on May 07, 2026 from The Grapevine

“Roz’s Book Club” is featuring a new type of book this month. The book is, “Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog,” by Lisa Scottoline, who is a New York Times best-selling author.

This book is like me as in it Scottoline uses stories from her popular columns published in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I have often thought of making a book using the weekly columns of The Grapevine.

But enough of me, back to Scottoline. Her weekly columns became so popular that the readers demanded a collection of these columns. The book contains a collection of 70 charming and hilarious columns.

She starts the book with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt about women being like tea bags – “A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she is in hot water.”

This quote sets the scene for the rest of the book. The stories are short and center on Empowerment, Holiday Guilt, Hearing Voices, Just Dandy, Gym Dandy, Unbreakable, Disastrous, and concludes with Life in The Middle Ages and Love. This book is a great read as it allows you to read each little story, lay the book down and pick it up again with a new story. What you think will be a funny story turns out to be sorrowful and each of the pet references are hilarious.

I recommend this book for light summer reading and suggest you get it at the Clarksburg Public Library, and it also comes in large print.

As Mother’s Day comes and goes I wanted to share a thought with you. This Mother’s Day, more than ever, I realize how wonderful it is to be a mother. On this day I want to publicly thank my children for allowing me to observe this day surrounded by them and all their love. Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers.

Stay safe, keep healthy and until next week, “Now You Have Heard It Through the Grapevine.”
