I guess if we had to title this column it would be a “little bit of this and that.” Last week found me busy doing a lot of this and that.  I am going to try and share with you just a little that is going on.

 

I went to a dinner hosted by the folks from the Milton Hershey School in Pennsylvania.  I am so impressed by the work they do.  They offer the opportunity of a lifetime to a child. I know there are a lot of people that do not know much about this program and probably a lot who have never heard of it.  I encourage you to go online to the Milton Hershey School Web site to find out more about this program.  Believe me, you will give your child a once in a lifetime opportunity. 

 

The Clarksburg Farmer's Market Board is busy making plans for the upcoming season.  Opening day will be May 13 at the same location in the Tractor Supply Parking lot. It will be held every Saturday until October. if you are interested in participating, contact William Yoke for an application.  I hope that all of you will plan on making a stop at the market to get that fresh produce. The committee is working on making opening day a nice place to spend a couple of days.  Remember this is Mother’s Day and I am sure you will be able to find a nice gift for those on your list.  Betty Waddy is president of the group and I am sure she would welcome any suggestions.  

 

I just happened to be at the Progressive Women’s office this week when the staff was receiving an order of food from the Department of Agriculture. The staff picked up the food that was being dispensed at a local spot convenient for allfood pantries.  The items on the list for the PWA had been ordered by the director and the cost was in excess of $450.00. These funds are received from local organizations such as Antero and Walmart.  Other organizations are very instrumental in donating canned goods.

 

There are many in the area who depend on the food bank. They also offer a pet pantry to help individuals who have pets. They would welcome donations from any group or individual.  

 

The PWA will be making and selling Easter Bread on Monday, April 3.  The cost is $10, and the bread will be seated on a Fiestaware plate.  They will also be selling homemade Easter eggs, also on a Fiesta plate.  Since there will be a limited supply it is suggested that you pre-order by calling 304-624-6881.

 

The Italian Festival will be sponsoring a 5K Spaghetti run on April 8 in Downtown Clarksburg starting at 9 a.m. The. Cost is $25 and registration includes a T-shirt.  Bill Boyles is chairing the event and is being assisted by Betty Waddy.

 

I was able to work in a dinner with Judy Ritz and Rosemary Maschio.  These were two of my neighbors from Lodgeville and I truly cherish their friendship. We ate at the Clique Club, and I so enjoyed their Monday special.  I was also able to visit with Allie and George Beezel and Janice Brunetti and all the nurses.  Take time for your friends.  They are our diamonds in life.
