The Grapevine: Roz's Book Club Reviews Bridgeport Resident JoAnn James' Seeds for Enlightenment - 101

By Rosalyn Queen on March 05, 2026 from The Grapevine

This past week I had the pleasure of serving as the emcee for the Women of Distinction luncheon. Nine African American women were honored to coincide with Black Heritage Month.

I had heard the name of JoAnn James but had never had the privilege of meeting her. I also have read her columns in the local newspaper. Her daughter came up to me and asked if I had read her book. I said I had not, but I would like to. We met each other and I got a copy of her book, and this is the book I am featuring this month in “ROZ ‘S BOOK CLUB.”

The book is titled, “Seeds for Enlightenment - 101.” JoAnn James and is a resident of Bridgeport. She has a BS degree in Social Sciences and Home Economics from Seton Hill University and a master’s in public management from Carnegie Mellon University. She retired from Hope Gas Dominion Resources and Allegheny Energy. She is incredibly involved in her church and is currently involved at Center Branch Assembly of God.

The book is a collection of thoughts and hopes that have been inspired by life experiences. The book will have a way of exploring your heart and may take root in leading you to find purpose. Each story is no longer than several pages but delivers a big message. One chapter that hit home with me was Snip, Snip Cut. You all know that I love to garden and after reading this it has made a new meaning for me.

A meaningful chapter on ‘Why’ changed my thoughts a lot. I want to assure you that each chapter is worth reading and when you read it for the second time it takes on a completely different meaning.

You can get the book from Amazon. Do yourself a great favor and get this for Easter and get it as a gift for your family and friends.

I promise spring is on its way. And remember to turn your clocks up.

Stay healthy and until next week, “You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
