The Grapevine finds itself being written in Richmond, Virginia.  

 

The saying “Virginia Is For Lovers” certainly seems to be true. I am not real sure just what part of Virginia I am in, but I feel that it is further south than Clarksburg, WV.  

 

The trees are all very green and the flowers are in bloom every where. The temperature is still only about 75 but it is a very nice feeling climate. Of all the traveling I have done, this is one part of Virginia I have not been in. We came across the mountains from Elkins and it was raining and was foggy. I think that when we go back we will go back across I-68 in Maryland.

 

In doing some research I find that Richmond has a Black History Museum, Edgar Allen Poe Museum, Virginia Holocaust Museum and several other interesting museums.

 

So far what I have seen Richmond is a very beautiful city. There are many large beautiful homes and almost all of them have nice flower gardens.

 

I am certain there are some bad parts of the city, but I have not seen them. I hope to have a couple more days here so I can do some sightseeing.

 

I think that at my age I have done my traveling for this summer. I still think there is no place like home.

 

I was saddened to hear about the passing of John Barnes. He was like a member of my family and his family and mine had many connections. We all lovingly referred to him as the mayor of East View.  

 

As long as Delores was at the Public Service office, John was taking care of things. My thoughts and love to Delores and the family.

 

Be sure to take time to plant a few flowers and vegetables in containers.  

 

There growth gives us the opportunity to watch nature in practice. I think I shared with you before, but the basil I planted last summer is still producing leaves for my salads.  

 

Leslie and Dixon got me new plants for Easter and when the other is all gone I will have fresh, new basil. Alexis and Francis Scott gave me four red pepper plants and I hope I have good luck with them this summer.

 

I do not think I will plant vegetables this year. The Old Gray Mare Is Not What she used to be.
