The Grapevine: There's Plenty to Do in the Area, Especially This Time of Year

By Rosalyn Queen on October 01, 2026 from The Grapevine

Did I hear you say “There is nothing to do in Clarksburg"?

Not true.  This is the time of year when you can participate in so many activities that you will run out off time.

The Chamber of Commerce has so many activities going on that you surely will want to attend.

I especially enjoy their Business After Hours.

This always gives me the opportunity to interact with other individuals in our community.

I am always able to meet someone new and most often I can tie them in to a function with the PWA.

Business After Hours is hosted by a business in our community.

It generally is held from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening.

This gives individuals the opportunity to attend straight from work and be home at an early hour.

The event includes refreshments and generally door prizes.

The chamber also hosts a business breakfast.

The breakfast will be held at one of our local motels and will include a speaker who will seem to appeal to most of the membership.

Those attending will have the opportunity to enjoy a light breakfast, hear a speaker and be at work by 9:30.

This also will afford those members attending the opportunity to interact with other members.

All of these activities are free to the members.  If you are not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, please take time to contact Marla at the Chamber and inquire about joining.

There are many other benefits to being a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Lifeline Screening Will be held at the uptown event center on October 12.

This screening involves test for the heart and vascular system.

Appointments must be made in advance to get this service.

You can make an appointment by calling Lifeline Screening.

Put your mind at ease by getting this test done and getting the results from these professionals.

There is a fee for getting this service.

This is just another service provided to our community for quick and easy testing.

With October being the beginning of fall, we naturally know that the end of the month brings Halloween.

There are so many activities being planned for our little trick-or-treaters.

Most of the local cities are planning a trick-or-treat night.

There are several other activities being planned by local groups.

Much emphasis is being put on safety for our trick-or-treaters and many of the groups are planning special activities for the young kids as well as passing out treats.

You can choose one or even several activities to attend.

Just be sure that you stay with your children for safety reasons.

Do not forget that most of our churches have planned activities and this would be a great way for our children to interact with other children who know the importance of faith in their lives.

Of course there is always this Sunday morning service but many of our churches have activities on Sunday evening and throughout the week for our Youth. Be sure to check our calendar of events to see dates and times.

Plan ahead to engage in any of the above activities.

Yes, there is plenty to do in our area.

Thank you to all of those who take the time to plan these activities and present them to the community.

Enjoy this lovely season,

Stay healthy and until next week ”Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
