The Grapevine: Visiting the Mustard Seed and Feeling Disappointed about Canceling Two Special Events

By Rosalyn Queen on July 21, 2020 from The Grapevine via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This past week I had the opportunity to visit the Mustard Seed.  It is located in the community building next to Southern States on Pike Street.

I was there with Elinda Carson, PWA Director.  The Mustard Seed had received a large order of food and we were going to help them store it in our refrigerators. Working that day were Delores Yoke and Mr. and Mrs. Riley.

The Mustard Seed is open four days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  They are closed Wednesday’s and weekends. They supply food, clothing and housewares. Their special needs are food, towels, sheets and cleaning supplies.  To make a appointment for donations or to volunteer call Delores Yoke at 303-624-6077.

I was really impressed with the set up and the efficiency that the volunteers used to handle  the donations. They are observing the virus restrictions and handle all needs outside.

Since moving to Bridgeport I have become a member of the library. I am so pleased with the service there and the friendly staff.  Although you are not allowed inside, the staff will shop for you and try to meet your reading preferences. Since trying to keep myself quarantined reading does fill my day.  My last book was Nora Roberts' latest, and it was enjoyable reading.

I was very disappointed with the cancellation of the Cancer Survivors Dinner and the WOD Luncheon.  But it was better to err on the side of safety. I promise they will be held as soon as the pandemic is lifted and I especially look forward to seeing you all.

I am still following the keto diet and this past week I par boiled some spinach and fried it with onions and two hot peppers.  When the peppers and onions were tender I added a  bag of cauliflower rice and let it simmer till most of the liquid. had evaporated and then I sprinkled shredded mozzarella on top and let it melt.  I fixed a tomato salad with fresh basil and had a great lunch.

Keep safe from the virus, please wear your mask and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
