When Wade and Dena Milner decided they needed a lifestyle change to better their health, they dove into it. Years later, the results are impressive.
The results were, and continue to be, so impressive that the Milner family decided to turn what they did into a business. Now, that business is coming to Bridgeport.
“I’ve been in business now for seven years,” said Wade Milner. “I’ve lost 102 pounds. My wife has lost 70 pounds on the products we sell and with what is available in our stores. We not only help you lose weight, but we can help you gain weight. Our business offers a lot to help with a healthy lifestyle.”
That business is Bridge Nutrition. It is the next addition to The Square @ Bridgeport Plaza off Virginia Avenue and Main Street.
It will be new to Bridgeport. It will not be new to West Virginia or even beyond the Mountain State’s borders.
“We have a number of stores, including Star City Nutrition in Monongalia County. We also have 11 more locations in Ohio,” said Milner.
The business deals with meal replacement products, often in the form of shakes and smoothies. The soon-to-open store will sell vitamins, cell activators, skin care products and sports line for athletes, among others. The store also will offer yoga classes, boot camps and one-on-one health coaching for meal plans that will be designed for weight gain or loss.
Milner, who pointed to West Virginia’s high obesity rate as a reason to set up shop within the state’s borders, said when looking for another location south of Star City the couple look at Huntington and Charleston among other places. Instead, they selected Bridgeport.
“There are a lot of athletics and sports facilities here, and that’s one of the reasons. Honestly, we liked it when we came here,” he said. “We’ve been to the city building and everything, for whatever reason, just seemed to fall into place.”
Scott Werdebaugh with Vast Holdings, LLC, and a co-owner of The Square, is thrilled with the newest addition.
“I think it’s great, especially given the current COVID-19 situation with many businesses wanting to scale back,” said Werdebaugh. “They’re doing the opposite and they’re bringing healthy options to the community.”
Milner said part of the reason it was easier to open a new location during the pandemic is that his stores, such as the Star City location, has seen an increase in business.
“During the pandemic, we were considered an essential business because of our meals and we’ve been open the entire time with curbside and even in-store pickup,” said Milner. “The last two months we have had more volume than ever.”
The business is in the former Appalachian Tire Building on the far-right side, said Werdebaugh. The store will cover 1,200 feet, with the buildout being done by Lee Reger Builds, and will leave one store front in that building up for lease.
“I’m very excited we’re at this point in the plaza where it is nearly filled. We’ve been cautious about who we bring in and want them to be an asset to the community,” said Werdebaugh. “This business will be an asset.”
The goal is to be open September 1, or perhaps sooner, said Milner. Once open, the hours will be Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visit their Facebook page and utilize the Messenger feature if you have any questions prior to opening.
