Mountain State Restaurant Considered a "Must Visit" Gearing Up for First North Central West Virginia Site

By Jeff Toquinto on April 01, 2026

One of West Virginia’s most recognizable restaurants will soon see a third establishment barring its name – and with the original owners.

The Secret Sandwich Society, considered by many as a must-stop dining experience at its Fayetteville location in the Mountain State, is coming to North Central West Virginia. The new location will be at the Suncrest Towne Centre in Morgantown.

“We had been looking into Morgantown for a number of years and when this opportunity arose we knew it was the right time and place,” said David Bailey, who along with his wife Tashia, will be the owner and operator of the site.

David and Tashia owned the Fayetteville site before selling it to current owner Louis Rhinehart. At that time, the couple focused their attention on the other Secret Sandwich Society situated in Richmond, Virginia. Now, their attention is back squarely in West Virginia.

“We actually never left the business but had sold our Richmond location so we could move back home to West Virginia and build a house,” said David. “Once that was completed we started looking into development opportunities for the SSS brand.”

The restaurant gained its status as a full-service gastropub known for its creative, elevated sandwiches and burgers. It also became a tourist draw in Fayetteville for those traveling to do activities at the New River Gorge.

What type of menu can customers expect?

“We will have the same menu as the Fayetteville location with a few new surprises. We may try out some different ideas with the new location as well to keep it fun and exciting,” said David, who added that a few items on the menu as it stands now will be updated. The menu can be found HERE.

The similarities include one important concept will remain the same. The bulk of the sandwiches will remain named after U.S. Presidents and First Ladies.

Locals, as well as travelers to Morgantown, should get a chance to try the new location out in early or mid-July if all goes as planned. It is located next to The GOAT West Virginia Pub, which is coming to Bridgeport this summer, and is situated on the endcap of one of several buildings at the sprawling development.

“We are really excited to enter the Morgantown market and be in a university town. We are getting playful with a few design ideas in this new location, and we can't wait to show it off,” David said. “We are also going to work on developing an SSS membership program that will have different perks and surprises which people can eventually sign up on our email or via a QR code.”
