There is a problem at Wayne Jamison Field. As one might expect, it has nothing to do with the Bridgeport High School football team.
The good news is that the problem is known by BHS administration. The better news is that an option to fix it has been identified and funding
for the fix is already secured.
for the fix is already secured.
The bad news? The timetable for making the fix is unknown.
As for the problem, it is the sound system at Jamison Field. It does not match the rest of the facility and has been getting worse in recent years.
“Obviously, the quality is not up to our standards,” said BHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Tom Sears. “It’s a dated system that gets a ton of use from the multiple sprots using the field throughout the year, so it is important that we have a system that works and works well. We’ve heard the concerns. We know it needs replaced, and that will happen.”
The question goes back to the above question regarding the unwelcome news. When will the fix be coming?
“We are in the process of making that happen. With that said, there are some financial hurdles that we’re working through,” said Sears. “I was on the phone (Wednesday, Oct. 29) afternoon trying to get it resolved.”
For those worried, the issue will be resolved, Sears said. Financial hurdles are often standard involving school-related projects.
Sears said the funding is there. He said school funds will cover the cost.
“Once the hurdles are cleared, the company we’ll be working with will still have to order the equipment and do the installation,” he said. “From the time we get the green light to order and install the system, we’re looking at about a month.”
Sears said that means the system will not make its debut during the final week of the regular football season or during any home playoff games the team may have. However, he was almost certain the spring sports season, in particular the track season, will see the new sound system’s first use.
