Television Icon, Emmy-Award Winning Comedienne, Vickie Lawrence, Coming to Robinson Grand PAC

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 07, 2025

Prepare for a night of laughter and nostalgia as the legendary Vicki Lawrence brings her critically acclaimed “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show” to the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 7:00 PM. In a comedic twist that fans have adored for decades, the beloved entertainer will share the stage with her most iconic creation, the irascible and unforgettable Mama Thelma Harper. Yes, you read that right – both Vicki Lawrence and Mama will be in the house.

For those in the know, the humor lies in the fact that these two incredible personalities reside within the same extraordinarily talented woman. Vicki Lawrence, the Emmy Award-winning comedienne who rose to fame on the “Carol Burnett Show,” masterfully embodies both her vibrant self and the curmudgeonly matriarch who stole America’s hearts on “Mama’s Family.”

“I’m very grateful for that old lady,” Lawrence has said with a laugh, acknowledging the enduring appeal of Mama, a character she first brought to life in her mid-20s. Now, decades later, Lawrence still delights in bringing Mama’s unique brand of humor to the stage.

The “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show” offers a unique blend of stand-up comedy, music, and witty observations from Vicki herself. The first half of the show features Lawrence sharing her life story, from her serendipitous casting on the “Carol Burnett Show” after a chance encounter sparked by her resemblance to the star, to her impressive career as a singer (remember the chart-topping hit “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia”?), talk show host, and activist.

But the anticipation truly builds when Mama takes the stage. As Lawrence explains, “I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We’re creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There’s really nothing she can’t do.”

Fans will relish in Mama’s sharp wit and no-nonsense perspective on life, delivered with the same comedic timing that made “Mama’s Family” a ratings sensation for six seasons. This is a chance to see a true television icon live and in person, in a show that seamlessly blends nostalgia with fresh, laugh-out-loud humor.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the comedic genius of Vicki Lawrence and her beloved alter ego, Mama, in a truly unforgettable “two-woman” performance.
