United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties Set to Host Annual Hot Wing Eating Contest in Bridgeport

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 06, 2026

The United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties will host its annual Hot Wing Eating Contest on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Buffalo Wild Wings in Bridgeport. The event combines spirited competition with community fundraising, supporting United Way’s mission to strengthen education, health, and financial stability programs across the region.

Community members are invited not only to support contestants but also to sign up to join the competition.

This year introduces a new online fundraising platform designed to make it easier for participants to reach out to their extended networks of friends, family, and coworkers to ask for support.

The streamlined system allows supporters to quickly contribute to their favorite wing eater’s campaign, helping contestants maximize their fundraising efforts and climb higher on the leaderboard and closer to the trophy.

The contest features an eight-minute hot wing eating challenge, with awards presented in several categories:
  • Top Fundraiser Trophy for the individual who raises the most money
  • Wing Warrior Trophies for the woman and man who eat the most wings
  • The Chicken Little Trophy for the contestant who eats the fewest wings
  • The Corporate Cup, a traveling trophy awarded to the company that raises the most money overall. The winning company’s name will be engraved on the trophy, which they will keep until the 2027 contest.
Antero Resources has been the longtime holder of the Corporate Cup, consistently leading the way in fundraising. This year, however, new challengers are already making an impression. Bad Lizard Granite & Quartz has entered the competition and quickly surged to the fundraising lead.

Robbie Shaw, representing Bad Lizard Granite & Quartz, commented, “We are excited to be part of this year’s contest and to support United Way’s important work. Antero has set a strong example in past years, and we look forward to joining the competition and contributing to the community in a meaningful way.”

Stephanie Goff, Public Affairs Coordinator for Antero Resources and President of the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties Board, explained why Antero continues to invest in United Way: “Antero is committed to strengthening the communities where our employees live and work. Partnering with United Way allows us to support programs that make a meaningful difference for families in Harrison and Doddridge Counties. The Corporate Cup is a fun tradition, but the true reward is seeing the impact these funds have on our neighbors.”
