A long vacant site that used to be home to a new and used car dealership for decades will soon see a new business open up shop.
According to a Harrison County official, the site situated at the intersection of Davisson Run Road and U.S. Route 19 (Milford Street) will soon be home to the second DG Market grocery store in Harrison County.
The area in question is the intersection that is home to the Clarksburg Food Lion. It was the past home to CVS Pharmacy in the area just below the former location of United Hospital Center.
For years, L&S Subaru was located on the site. However, after the building was vacant for years it was eventually demolished.
The property, just outside Clarksburg’s city limits, has seen activity in the decades since L&S went out. Most of the activity has seen the property used as a staging area, including for First Energy in the 2010s. Now, something permanent is going in its place.
Although no time was given for its completion, the frame and exterior of the building are essentially in place. A permit filed with Harrison County has an expiration of 120 days after its filing on Feb. 28, 2024. Officials say this will be a nearly $1 million project on what is listed as a 1.77-acre site. The building is listed as being 10,640 square feet and will include 34 parking spaces.
While many are familiar with Dollar General as there are several locations in Harrison County, including one in Bridgeport at The Square off Virginia Avenue, there is only one other DG Market in Harrison County. The current DG Market is in West Milford.
DG Market differs from Dollar General in that its primary items are grocery items. There is meat, produce, and standard grocery store items as its main focus. Dollar General offers food items, but in a limited capacity by comparison.
The developer of the project is listed as Linden Avenue, LLC, out of Pataskala, Ohio. The engineering done on the project is by Centec Engineering PLLC out of Beckley.
