BHS Overcomes 4-0 Deficit for 9-4 Victory Against Lewis County; Indians in Big 10 Driver's Seat

Down 4-0 through three innings, Bridgeport put up five runs in the fourth and added four more on the way to defeating Lewis County, 9-4, on Monday in Weston.
The will all but wrapped up the Big 10 Conference title for the Indians, who are now 24-4. They can secure the league crown at home against Grafton today.
BHS entered the showdown with the Minutemen as the No. 2 ranked team in the WV MetroNews Class AAA Power Rankings. Complete rankings for all three classes can be seen HERE
Trenton Hunt hit a pair of two-run singles and was in command on the mound for Lewis County (15-5) which entered the game with just one Big 10 loss like Bridgeport.
The Minutemen were actually threatening to add to their lead in the third as they had the bases loaded with one out. But BHS starter Rowen Michaelis induced a four-six-three double play to get out of the inning with the deficit at 4-0.
Mark Biafore led off the bottom of the fourth by blasting a solo home run to left and the Indians were off and running.
“That double play was huge,” BHS coach Robert Shields said. “Then Mark got things going for us with that home run.
“I’m proud of the way the guys hung in there. Lewis County is a very good team.”
After Biafore’s homer, Conner Blake reached on a one-out single. Ashton Curry followed with a single that advanced Blake to third. Blake scored when Michael Romano reached on an error, making it 4-2.
Hunt then hit Kasen Baun with a pitch to load the bases and hit Brody Pierce with a pitch to bring in Curry.
The Indians tied it at 4 when Zach Rohrig reached on an error and Romano scored. The fifth run of the inning came when Ben Bifano was hit by a pitch and Baun crossed the plate.
Carson Currey relieved Michaelis on the mound in the bottom half of the fourth and was dominant the rest of the way. He picked up the win, allowing just one hit over four innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
“Carson really hit his spots, he did a great job for us,” Shields said.
Pinch-runner Sam Goodwin scored when Baun was hit by a pitch again with the bases loaded. After a double play, Romano scored on a wild pitch and Rohrig crushed an RBI double to deep center, bringing in Baun and making it 8-4.
Rohrig scored the game’s final run on a Bifano sacrifice fly off the bat of Bifano.
Biafore, Blake and Curry all finished with two hits for the Indians while Romano and Baun each scored two runs.
