Our first wedding anniversary announcement is for Lucy and Raymond Gifford, who were married Oct. 6, 1959 on Bridgeport's Main Street.

Lucy and Raymond Gifford of Bridgeport celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6, 2017. They were married Oct. 6, 1959 on Main Street, Bridgeport, at the residence of Reverend Bennett, who officiated the ceremony. The wedding was on a Tuesday so that Mr. Gifford’s mother could attend on her day off work from The Virginian restaurant. The couple honeymooned at Blackwater Falls.

Raymond is the son of Howard and Georgia Gifford and Lucy is the daughter of Heber and Neva Weaver.

Lucy Gifford graduated from Victory High School and Raymond from Bridgeport High School. They met at Matthews Brothers Filling Station in Clarksburg in May of 1957. Raymond had just been discharged from the U.S. Army. He worked as a locker room/greens keeper at Bridgeport Country Club when the couple married.

The Giffords had three children: Sonda Williams, who resides in Bridgeport with her daughter Jacklyn; Duane Gifford who lives in Yazoo City, Missisippi with his wife Tina and son Tristan; and Sherri Jenio who lives in Dubai in United Arab Emirates with husband Frank, daughters Brittany and Emma and son Zack.

Raymond retired from C & P Telephone Company in 1986. Lucy continues to own and operate Miss Lucy’s Daycare in Bridgeport.
