The annual Bridgeport High School Color Me Rad game event sponsored by the BHS Student Council has been traditionally dedicated to a member of our community battling cancer. This year when we heard the news that former BHS football player Joel - better known as Chuck Horne and wife Ashlea - had a daughter battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, we knew that we wanted to help.  Etta Horne is a 7-year-old student who attends Heritage Christian School.  Her battle with leukemia has been going on since December 2017. It has involved numerous treatments and procedures, and medical bills and expenses have continued to add up.

BHS students gather at Bridgeport City Park parking lot prior to every home game to get pumped up for the game and enjoy food prepared by the “City Park Boys" (see above.) However, last Friday night, the BHS Student Council also sold color packets to be thrown in the air for the annual “Color Me Rad” event.  All of the proceeds from the packets were donated to the Horne family. In addition to the packets being sold, members of the student government also collected donations from the crowd during half time. We, as the co-chairs of this event, were thrilled with the generosity of the community! We were able to exceed our goal and will be donating over $1,300. We as BHS students are very fortunate to have such a supportive community, and we are very grateful to be able to give back and help a strong family in our community who happens to have an even stronger daughter.
