You’ve seen them in their offices. You’ve seen them at community events. But you have never seen them cutting the rug like they will be doing on October 13.  The Miss West Virginia Scholarship Organization will be sponsoring the first annual Dancing with Our Community Stars and the people participating are familiar faces with more rhythm that you may have realized.

The event will raise scholarship money for the Miss West Virginia contestants and it will also mark the return of the pageant to Harrison County.  The newly revitalized Robinson Grande Theatre will play host to this year’s pageant, marking the 75thyear of the state has held the Miss West Virginia pageant. For many years, Harrison County was the home for the event and President of the Board of Directors, Barb Brunetti, is excited for its return to our area.

“We are thrilled to be able to showcase the local talent in this one-of-a-kind fundraising event and we look forward to watching the pageant contestants on the stage at the Robinson Grande Theatre in June,” said Brunetti.  “We plan to make Dancing with Our Community Stars an annual event and we appreciate the community partnerships that have made this a reality.”

There will be six couples competing in Dancing with Our Community Stars.  Patsy Trecost will dance with Cathy Goings; Juli Jones will dance with Nick Green; Susan and Tim Miley will be a team; Dr. Mark Manchin and Heather Hall will be partners; Husband and wife team of Reid Thrush and Stacie Roberts will represent Sky Radio and WKW, and Mariah Congedo from WDTV will dance with Thrasher’s Clay Riley.

Choreographers for the event include In Step Fitness and Dance Studio, Mikasa Dance Company, Cadalzo Contemporary Dance Studio and Geoff Steele.  The event will be held at Village Square on October 13, beginning at 6:00p.m.  The dance competition will be from 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. and each couple will dance to a randomly selected song.  Each duo has spent countless hours practicing their dance moves and will be wearing costumes that reflect the theme of the song.

The dance couples will be competing for Grand Champion, which will be chosen by a panel of three judges.  The People’s Choice Grand Champion will be determined by votes received on the Miss West Virginia website.  Tickets are $40 for adults and $15 for children 11 years and under.  Additional information, including voting and ticket sales, will be on the Miss West Virginia Presents: Dancing with the Community Stars Facebook page.
