By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 14, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Johnson Elementary fifth graders traveled today the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center today to distribute Valentines and other tokens of love and appreciation.

For the past couple of weeks, the students have crafted more than 500 Valentine cards for the occasion. In addition to the hand-made Valentines, students assembled treat bags filled with food snacks, bottled water and sweets for the resident veterans. Tuesday morning, Johnson Elementary fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Taya Trent, along with parent volunteers, took students to the facility where they set up a table to greet veterans and express their love and appreciation for their service. The students also talked with the veterans, learning about their service to our country; a first-hand account of our nation’s history, Trent said.
