Alkire's Variety Store, Mick's Barber Shop on Main Street and Bridge in Clarksburg's Glen Elk Section

By Dick Duez on June 18, 2017 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Who remembers Alkire's Variety Store located on West Main Street just prior to the bridge going over Simpson Creek? It was similar to a dime store and many frequented that establishment as well as the one on the right - Mick's Barber Shop. The shop was owned by Bridgeport's Bill Mick.
If this bridge looks familiar, or rather the view since the bridge has been replaced likely more than once since this photo was taken in 1913, it should. It's a view from Glen Elkin into downtown Clarksburg. The billboard on the right, which says "Wriglery's" for the gum, is where the entrance to the Centra Bus Terminal is located.

Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
