Clarksburg-Bridgeport Red Raiders Cheer Squad and JCPenney from Time in Downtown Clarksburg

By Dick Duez on April 09, 2017 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

See anyone you know? If you're not sure what you're looking at, these are the cheerleaders for the Clarksburg-Bridgeport Red Raiders Semi-Pro football team that played its home games at what is now Wayne Jamison Field. This picture is from a July 30, 1977 program when the Red Raiders played the Baltimore Eagles.
For decades, JCPenney (here as J.C. Penney in the 1960s) was a mainstay on Main Street in downtown Clarksburg. The store, along with several other big box retail stores, eventually closed shop with many relocating to the Meadowbrook Mall in the 1980s.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
