Time Travel: Johnson Avenue's School Row Prior to its Development and Going to Grafton for Ice Cream

By Dick Duez on January 06, 2019 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This photo was taken from a 1950s magazine showing and discussing development in Bridgeport. If it looks a bit familiar it should. The one building in the middle is of what was then the new Johnson Elementary School that was just recently demolished. As the caption states, the high school will soon be built. Nearly 80 years later, the photo has certainly changed.
Another 1950s photo of a place many may be familiar with. This is of the Dairy Queen that is situated in Grafton. Many a sweet treat was taken during this decade at this location.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard
"Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
