Level Up: Mmore Goatz

By Samual Cale on October 09, 2015 from Level Up via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Mmore Goatz edition is a sequel to Goat Simulator, which I reviewed earlier this year. It has an altogether different feel. Instead of being a simple physics game with many secrets, but no specific objectives, Mmore Goatz edition offers quests as well as a survival aspect. It has, however, not lost the ridiculous comedic edge of its predecessor.

In Mmore Goatz edition, there are four game modes. Goat MMO-RPG, GoatZ pre apocalypse, GoatZ post apocalypse, and GoatZ tutorial. Each game variant holds different secrets and jokes, as well as completely different objectives, but in general the control scheme is similar to the original, and my personal favorite is the goat MMO-RPG.

In the goat MMO-RPG you play as one of six classes, all of which have different abilities and humorously strange descriptions. Contrary to what one would think, you do not have a health bar, and nothing can really harm you. The objective is to gain experience points (XP) by doing tricks, completing quests, and defeating enemies. You are given quests by the inhabitants of the medieval land, some of which are as easy as jumping off a ledge, while others are complicated and involve retrieving items. In the bottom left corner is a generic MMO chat box with generic chat scrolling through, none of which is actually being written by players. There are also fake goat “players” running around in certain places to simulate the feel of an online game. It's all very silly.

In the GoatZ pre apocalypse you awaken in an open coffin in a cemetery on a hill. Your goat has green tinged fur, and numerous gashes in its side, giving it the effect of looking like a zombie. You can use the “baa” ability to belch out a green cloud that will turn anything it touches into a zombie. You can run around, do tricks, and accumulate points much as you do in the original goat simulator, except you are a zombie goat. If you choose to infect five individuals with the zombie disease, you will start a zombie outbreak, which starts a session of GoatZ post apocalypse.

In the GoatZ post apocalypse game mode, you are still a zombie goat, but you have to survive, and other zombies try to attack you for some reason. It is on basically the same map as the GoatZ pre apocalypse is. You have a health bar, and a hunger bar. You have to eat food to keep your hunger bar up. If your hunger bar is at zero, you will take damage to your health. Obviously, if your health drops to zero, you die. There are a variety of weapons that can be found or crafted. There are many items that can be crafted to help you survive, or just to look good. One thing that I find very odd is that you can kill a zombie and eat its brain to regain hunger and health.

Overall, I give Mmore Goatz edition a 6 out of 10. It has humor and at least some objective. There are also varied game modes that offer moderate diversity. It's a good way to spend a few hours, and I feel that I got at least my $10.
