Bon-Ton, Elder-Beerman to Close 40-Plus Locations in U.S. after Filing Bankruptcy; Mall Site to Stay Open

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 09, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Two months ago, Connect-Bridgeport linked to a business Web site called morningstat.com that reported that there were serious financial ssues with Bon-Ton Corporation. Bon-Ton is a parent corporation doing business as Elder-Beerman, Boston Store, Younkers, Bergner’s, Carson’s, Herberger’s and Bon-Ton.

The site also announced that several stores under the Bon-Ton umbrella would be closing and provided a list of stores they suspected would eventually close. It was speculated that the Elder-Beerman store at the Meadowbrook Mall would not be impacted. It appears the Web site was correct.

Earlier this week,  Bon-Ton filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection, according to this article from CNBC.com. The article also lists more than 40 stores across the country that will be closing.

As was correctly predicted, the Bridgeport location will remain open. One of the 40-plus stores being closed is in West Virginia. The chain announced the Elder-Beerman in Vienna will be shutting down.
