Clarksburg Uptown presented a $1,000 donation to the Clarksburg History Museum July 9, 2018.  The new museum aligns with Uptown’s vision and mission of improving downtown Clarksburg according to Uptown President Daniel Rogers.   

 

The Clarksburg History Museum will be located inside the Board of Education Building at 445 West Main Street, Downtown Clarksburg.  The space will be used to display artifacts relating to the history of Clarksburg and the surrounding area. 

 

Local teacher, history buff and Museum Chairman Michael Spatafore stated, “There will be exhibits, historical displays and all kinds of things celebrating the city.  There has never been a dedicated museum of Clarksburg history and the museum board members and myself thought it was time for one.”

 

The Clarksburg History Museums mission is as follows: “The Clarksburg History Museum educates and inspires all people to discover, explore, and strengthen their connections to our city and Harrison County and its diverse heritage”.

 

Clarksburg Uptown is a non-profit business organization made up of a network of business and property owners and interested citizens who care deeply about their city and have vowed to work together with the City of Clarksburg to improve the business climate. Clarksburg Uptown’s mission is to promote the economic and social potential and growth of downtown Clarksburg and Glen Elk.   

 

A few of Clarksburg Uptown’s accomplishments include organizing and sponsoring the Jazz Stroll events in the city, providing façade improvement grants to members, beautifying empty store fronts such as the ones on the corner of 3rd and Pike Street (former Country Kitchen) and much more. 

 

"Basically if you are doing business in the central business district here, we would love for you to be a member of our organization," said Daniel Rogers, president of Clarksburg Uptown and pharmacist at Byard-Mercer Pharmacy. 

 

Uptown’s projects work in coordination with city projects.

 

"Well a lot of the projects that we as a city are doing is the demolition which will get rid of abandoned homes and so that combined with what we are doing to promote our downtown just creates a better atmosphere. It is conducive to business and so with the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center coming right around the corner, the timing is critical for Clarksburg Uptown," said Mayor Cathy Goings. 

 

The Museum History Committee invites all local residents, businesses and history buffs to come and share their information and/or items with them to help tell the story of Clarksburg’s historic past.
