Five Harrison County Students Advance to RESA 7 Regional Spelling Bee

Five elementary and middle school students have placed in the Harrison County Spelling Bee and will advance to the RESA 7 Regional Spelling Bee Tuesday, March 13 at Fairmont State University’s Wallman Hall.
 
Those county winners are Savannah Jones of Lincoln Middle School, first place; John Angiulli of St. Mary’s Grade School, second place; Kira Gazal of Heritage Christian School, third place; Alex Cunningham of Lost Creek Elementary School, fourth place and Ava Scolapio of Nutter Fort Intermediate, fifth place. Isabella Hoops of Big Elem Elementary placed sixth and will serve as alternate for the upcoming competition. The county bee was held Wed., Jan. 10 at the Bridgeport HIgh School auditorium. 
 
Five contestants from each participating county in the regional will compete in the March 13 event which gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
Words are selected from the 2018 Scripps District Pronouncer Guide. Rules are the same as those used in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
