FROM THE US MARSHALS SERVICE

A Pennsylvania man wanted for failing to appear for trial was arrested today after a pursuit outside of a hotel near Bridgeport.

Jason Millward, 25, of Pittsburgh, PA was arrested in the wooded area between Lodgeville Road and Interstate 79 near the Route 50 interchange. Millward was wanted in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania for failure to appear for his trial approximately three weeks ago. Millward was previously charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer in Allegheny County, but was released on bond pending his trial.

Millward is accused of stabbing a Deputy Sherriff in May 2015 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland, PA. That Deputy Sheriff was guarding Millward’s room while Millward was being treated for a minor self-inflicted wound. Following that incident, Millward was released on bond and became a fugitive until January 2017.  On January 23, law enforcement officers in West Moreland County PA located him at an apartment in Adamsburg.

During that arrest, Millward jumped out of a 3rd floor window as he was trying to escape. He was briefly caught by deputies before falling to the ground. Millward was arrested and faced additional charges for resisting arrest, aggravated assault and fleeing. Millward was released on bond a second time, until he missed his trial in October. At that time a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was a fugitive until today’s arrest. Millward also has other charges pending in Pennsylvania for fraud, identity theft, and forgery.

US Marshals in the Western District of Pennsylvania were assisting in locating Millward after he failed to appear. Earlier today, they received information Millward was staying at a hotel in Bridgeport near Tolley Drive. That information was quickly relayed to Deputy Marshals in Clarksburg who searched the area and located Millward’s vehicle in a parking lot near the hotel. Deputy Marshals surveilled the hotel and observed Millward and a female companion exit the hotel and enter Millward’s vehicle.

Deputy Marshals approached the vehicle to arrest Millward and the vehicle fled. After making a lap around the parking lot, the vehicle was blocked in and came to a stop. At that time Millward exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the wooded area. Millward was caught by Deputy Marshals after a short pursuit through rough terrain. Following the arrest, Millward had to be escorted back to law enforcement vehicles as he refused to walk.

Millward will be charged by the Clarksburg Police Department as a fugitive from justice. He will face extradition proceedings in Harrison County before returning to Pittsburgh. Millward will be lodged at the North Central Regional Jail pending his court appearances.
