Snapshot: "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" Movie Leads to Arrest after Airing at Robinson Grand

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 14, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Thanks to our friends at the City of Clarksburg and Marketing and Community Relations Specialist Dominique Medina Spatafore, Connect-Bridgeport will occasionally run photos from the City of Clarksburg's Web site for the restoration of the old Robinson Grand that will soon open as the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center. The Web site is "therobinsongrand.com" and is hyperlinked below.

This is part of their "Snapshots of History" on their site, which also includes regular construction updates of the project and more. In this photo, from late 1977 it shows the Robinson Grand's then Director, Madge Douds, being escorted to jail. Ms. Douds was arrested and fined for promoting and displaying an R-rated film in the Robinson Grand. The film, "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" was critically acclaimed, but also included scenes that were considered obscene during that time.
