Off the Shelf: Library Closures, a Book Sale, and Renovations

By Sharon Saye on February 13, 2019 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Library will be closed on Monday morning, Feb. 18, for a planned electrical outage by Mon Power.  We will open at noon and resume our normal hours:  weekdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, noon until 5 p.m.

The Library will also be closed on Thursday, February 28, for staff training.  We normally hold a full-day of staff training in August, but the renovations prevented it.  The staff are going to spend the morning on digital training and the afternoon on safety training.

February 16 is the City of Bridgeport Special Election to authorize levies for the next 5 years to support the Library, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, resurface city streets, construct, maintain and repair city sidewalks, and provide funds for Storm Water Management.  There were articles on each aspect of the levy on Connect Bridgeport.

The Library is holding a book sale from now through the end of March in the hallway of the library.  The staff has been working diligently to remove books that are out of date, grubby, and no longer used.  The price is only $.25 so you cannot beat this deal.  We just finished the cookbooks so there are lots of great choices.  So please stop in and browse through the selections.  Since we have boxes of books as space becomes available, we add new titles.  So, visit regularly.

Our renovations are almost complete.  The main project was finished in October, but we added additional lighting for the magazine section and the children’s section.  The front of the library is now done, and the lights have arrived for the children’s area, so we are just waiting for the contractors.  This has been a very long project and we are all looking forward to its completion.
