Off the Shelf: Renovations Lead to Temporary Changes

By Sharon Saye on July 18, 2018 from Off the Shelf via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Renovations are slowly moving forward and next week dramatically so.  The new flooring and carpeting will be installed the end of this week and the beginning of next week in the front section of the library.

This will affect services since we will have to remove the DVD collection, the magazines and newspapers, and the new books the middle of this week.  Some of these we will leave on carts in the back of the library, but if you are interested in binge watching DVDs you need to visit the library early this week to check them out.  Hopefully, they expect to take four days and so we should be putting things back in place by the end of next week.

Also, the Internet computers will have to be disconnected at the end of this week so that they can carpet under them.  This means we will be limited to four Internet access computers in the back section of the library for around a week.

There will be a great deal of shifting around as this project proceeds which I know will be confusing, but eventually everything will be completed by the end of September.

Part of the project is converting two office areas into one so that we will have a place for small computer classes and 3D printing, and we will be combining cataloging and processing into one section so that we no longer will be wheeling carts of books from one end of the building to the other.  Also, the Marion County Public Library Digital bookmobile will begin visiting the Bridgeport area this fall for training sessions and checkouts.

So, there are going to be all sorts of new things at your library this fall.  We just have to be patient as things change.
