City Parks and Recreation Department Hiring Lifeguards and other Summer Help

By Julie Perine on February 22, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The City of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department is starting its search for summer help. In addition to lifeguards and concession workers for Bridgeport City Pool, the department is filling seasonal maintenance positions.

Finding qualified individuals, including local teens, to work summer jobs is important to the department, said Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth.

“These summer positions are vital to the operation of our park system,” he said. “From the lifeguards teaching our children to swim and ensuring their safety around the pool to the maintenance personnel who keep our parks clean and beautiful.”

Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department provides great summer employment opportunity to area youth and also enjoys the work ethic and enthusiasm which the young people bring to the department, Shuttleworth said.
Lifeguard positions are extremely vital. At the present time, the city is short of the numbers needed to fully operate the pool. For those interested in becoming a lifeguard and working at the city pool, lifeguarding certification classes are offered locally*. The City of Bridgeport offers a reimbursement program for lifeguards, so the cost of the class will be reimbursed to those hired.

Individuals interested in applying for any summer position can stop by the Benedum Civic Center or call 304-842-8240.
