The pages of "Harry Potter" came to life this week at Benedum Civic Center as Bridgeport Parks and Recreation hosted a summer day camp where young wizards concocted potions and created art projects revolving around the popular theme.

Brenda Smith headed up the session which ran June 19-22, teaching boys and girls how to make Harry’s favorite treacle tarts, chocolate lava cake, butter beer and other creative treats. Day campers also took part in crafts, wizardry and plenty of activities to fuel the imagination.

While their baked goods were in the oven, kids went ot the Ollivander Wand Shop. The sampled baked goods in the Great Hall. The session concluded Friday  with a "dress-as-your-favorite character day" and an art exhibition showcasing projects.

Those who missed the first session are in luck. A second day camp will run July 17-20, 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. Cost is $180 per child per session.

Both sessions feature four houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

The day camp is open to kids age 8 and up. Register at the Benedum Civic Center office or by calling 304-842-8240.
