With the regular season in the books, the Class AA Region II, Section 1 tournament has been set. Bridgeport High School will enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed among five Big 10 Conference teams that make up this part of the section.

Thanks to the seed, Bridgeport will earn a first round bye and host its first round bye. The Indians will open the postseason next Tuesday – Feb. 20 – at the BHS gymnasium.

Bridgeport will face off against No. 3 seed Robert C. Byrd. The 15-7 Indians have two wins against the Eagles this year by scores of 60-32 and 61-28.

The tournament begins Friday. No. 5 seed Liberty will play at No. 4 seed Elkins. The winner of that game will play at top-seeded Lincoln. The Cougars will host the winner of that contest also on Tuesday.

Lincoln, 13-8, swept the season series from Bridgeport this year. The Cougars won the opening game 56-49 in Shinnston and then won the second contest 53-39 at BHS.

The winners of Tuesday’s game will play for the sectional title next Thursday, Feb. 22. The winner of that game will play in a regional final for a berth in the state tournament on their home floor against the losing team in the Region II, Section 2 tournament. The loser of Tuesday’s game will go on the road to face the winner of the Section 2 tournament for a trip to Charleston.

Region 2 features six teams. The teams include Herbert Hoover, Roane County, Clay County, Braxton County, Lewis County and Nichols County.

All games in both sections begin at 7 p.m.
