The winner of Bridgeport High School’s “Scout Team Player of the Week” for their effort in the week leading up to last week’s game with East Fairmont is a familiar name to the Indians’ football program. Sophomore Carson Winkie, whose family has had several play in the program in recent years, earned the honor.

Winkie is a 6’1, 190 sophomore. During the week leading up to what was a 36-0 win against the Bees, he played the role of linebacker.

“He had a great week playing linebacker,” said Bridgeport Assistant Coach Adam King. “He’s a quiet kid who shows up to practice every day and works his tail off.

“He’s a positive influence on other players; leading by example,” King continued. “He has incredible potential to be a star in the future.”

The efforts by Winkie and the rest of the defensive scout team worked. Not only was the offense prepared with 36 points, but the defense held East Fairmont to less than 50 yards of offense in the game.

The BHS coaching staff initiated the program this year to recognize those who help prepare the varsity each week. The winner is chosen based on a vote of the coaches.
