Sweat & Smiles: Rule Number One in Getting What You Want in Life is Knowing Exactly What You Want

By Melissa Romano on September 09, 2017 from Sweat & Smiles via Connect-Bridgeport.com

With life coaching clients we usually do an exercise or spend a session sorting through what that client's "dream life" looks like. The reason I say "sort through" is because most people aren't very clear on what they even want.

If I asked you what your dream life looks like you might respond with "I'd have lots of money, a big house and I'd travel" or "I could do whatever wanted" or "I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight." I can assure you one thing, that kind of vagueness isn't going to have you jumping out of bed to seize the day each morning.

Rule number one in getting what you want: knowing exactly what you want.

The idea that we need more money is probably one that most of us share but it's not necessarily the money that we desire as much as the freedom and experiences that it could buy.

What do you want freedom to do? Spend some time in your thoughts, writing out what it is you would do if you had 10 or 20 hours of free time a week. What experiences would you spend your money on? Where exactly would you travel? What would you want to see, do, or learn? Who would you be? It's this kind of clarity that will help you open your eyes and your mind to new opportunities. This kind of clarity will help you think outside of the box to open new doors to the things you really want ... and it may not involve money.

I talked with a young, single guy who felt like if he could just make more money than he would find exactly what he was searching for. We
"sorted through" what his dream life looked like and it turns out what he really wanted to do was to travel around with bands he liked. In this case, he didn't need more money... he needed to get a job with a band. So he set his sights on becoming a roadie for a band.

This is exactly why I'm no longer going to refer to this as a "dream life", because once you declutter everything and get clear on what you really want out of life - getting it is very, very realistic. From now on this exercise will be called "the life meant for me". All of the things you want to be, do, and have are one hundred percent attainable - all you've got to do is figure out exactly what that is.

Decluttering your life and mind of the things that drain your energy will open all kinds of room to get very specific on who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to have. If you want to be a world traveler then don't waste all of your time, money, and energy trying to acquire a bigger house. If you want to move to a bustling city then don't waste your time, money, and energy on an expensive car.

Most importantly, once you get crystal clear on what it is you want out of life you'll have no problems getting out of bed in the morning ready to seize the day! Being clear on what you want will not only open new possibilities, it will move you to constantly take inspired action.
