The Bridgeport Fire Department, like many throughout the state, were extremely busy throughout much of the day Saturday as high winds did damage throughout the area.

Bridgeport Deputy Fire Chief Greg Pigg said the department handled roughly 20 calls related to the wind. He said the covered just about every spectrum expected.

“The crews did trees down, power lines down, and helped with the issue with the roof at Leeson’s,” said Pigg. “They also had fire alarms going off due to the issue with power going out throughout the area.”

FirstEnergy announced there were thousands without power throughout the state on Saturday and there were still several pockets in their service area without energy as of this a.m.

“There were a lot of calls,” said Pigg. “The one positive is that we did not have to deal with any injuries.”

The incident at “Leeson’s” was at Leeson’s Import Motors. A portion of the roof came off at the facility and did damage. The business is located at 320 West Main Street.
