West Virginia Wesleyan College senior Meredith Farkasovsky considers herself to be a big fan of Bobcat football. The Oct. 18, 2014 game against Concord University is one for the memory bank – not because WVWC fell to the Cougars 61-12, but because during that game Farkasovsky was crowned WVWC Homecoming Queen.

And is if that wasn’t memorable enough, she was escorted by her boyfriend Ben Baird – tight end for the Bobcats.

“When I found out I was elected to be on homecoming court, I was very honored and excited,” said Farkasovsky, a 2011 Bridgeport High School graduate. “I was excited to have Ben as my escort and share the experience with him.”

The WVWC homecoming queen selection process starts with nominations by campus organizations.

“I was elected by my sorority Alpha Delta Pi,” Farkasovsky said. “There were about four different voting processes until the final queen nominations were announced. The homecoming court is then announced at the halftime show of the football game and king and queen is announced as well.”

Named 2014 WVWC homecoming king was Jack Waldon.

Farkasovsky was a BHS Homecoming Court princess during her sophomore and senior years. She was also a four-year member of the volleyball team. As graduation approached, it was important to her to attend a local college where she could continue her volleyball career.

“I had a close family friend that attended Wesleyan and I really enjoyed the campus when I visited her,” she said. “On my recruiting visit for volleyball, I fell in love with Wesleyan. After meeting the girls on the team and attending a class, I knew that's where I belonged.”

She has made herself quite a home at WVWC. She has been a four-member of the Bobcat Volleyball Team, currently serving as senior captain. She is a sister of Alpha Delta Pi, a Rose-court member of Kappa Alpha Order, a founding sister and executive board member of the National Society of Leadership and Success at Wesleyan, and leap member, Alpha Lambda Delta.

She is studying elementary studies with a major in education and psychology and will graduate in the spring of 2015.

“My future plans are to pursue a job at an elementary school,” she said. “I would love to be a kindergarten teacher.”

Farkasovsky's parents Marsha and Bob reside in Bridgeport.
