The daughter of the late Chuck and Joy McGinnis, Cookie grew up at Maple Lake and has loved the Bridgeport Community. She attended Bridgeport schools and graduated from BHS in 1975. During her time at Bridgeport High School, she was very active in the Pep Club, Drama Club and played in the class play. Cookie’s 3 Sisters also Graduated from Bridgeport High School. She was the Fireman’s Fair Queen in 1974.
Her community work began in the 1980’s when she assisted Mary "Mema" Reppert to sell BHS Indian apparel and also became involved with the Shop 4 Tots Program. Cookie assisted Mary on Friday night football games, basketball games and any other events we could sell at. After Mema’s passing in 1998 Mrs. Rowe thought it was only appropriate that she continue to sell Indian Apparel.
She began selling Indian apparel out of her car as Mema did and then moved to selling it at the school and many school events. You could always find Cookie at the home BHS football games to purchase Indian gear for over 30 years. It was so exciting to actually get our own building to sell out of many years later. She started Cubby's Child Care Center from the ground up in 1984, where she ran a successful business in Bridgeport for 10 years before selling it and going to work with her husband Mark Compton. Cookie and Mark own and operate Compton Metals where they both still currently work.
She has volunteered with "Shop for Tots" for over 40 years and is continuing to help the program along with her daughter, Lindsey Compton. In addition to her work with Shop for Tots, she also helped to run the Strawberry Sale that the Alumni Foundation puts on every year to award scholarships to BHS student athletes. She has also volunteered with the BHS golf tournament for several years which helps fund scholarships and other program needs.
Cookie and Mark Compton have been married for 40 years and are the proud parents of three children: Chad Reppert (wife Jacqueline), Ryan Compton (fiancée Jamie Melzer), and Lindsey Compton(fiancé Taylor Masciarelli). They also have 8 grandchildren: Kaden Reppert (wife Riley) US Airforce, Landyn Reppert who attends WVU, Kambryn Reppert, Markus Mugge, Arya Mugge, Kyra Mugge, Brielle Compton, and Ayla Compton who all attend Bridgeport schools. Cookie enjoys spending her time outside of work and volunteering with her family and going to the multitude of activities they participate in. She also enjoys traveling, sports, and her many outings with close friends. Cookie and Mark are active members in Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She loves her community, family and friends.
