BHS Graduate Pens Book to Help Raise Awareness and Funds for Fellow Classmate Timmy Wilson

It was a simple assignment.  The students in Education 461 at West Virginia University were given a challenge to create a children’s book that they would like to house in their future classroom’s library.  The elementary education majors submitted a variety of topics, including traditions, friendship and the Mountain State.  2012 BHS graduate, Bryanna Moore, however, took a different approach.

“Most children are familiar with the word ‘cancer’ and it can be a difficult thing to discuss with them,” said Moore.  “Timmy Wilson is one of my best friends, and he is fighting a very courageous battle right now.”

Moore’s book, “What To Do When A Friend Has Cancer,” helps kids understand how to support and encourage loved ones as they struggle to heal.  The book is also illustrated by Wilson’s sister Caitlin, and includes friends and family who are close to her brother. Wilson, who is also a 2012 BHS graduated, has a rare cancer called Medulloblastoma and is currently undergoing treatment.

The book raises awareness of the fight against cancer and it offers comfort to children who may not know what to do during the difficult process.  Moore originally wanted to raise money through book sales also, but the entire cost of publishing will be going to the publishing company.

“I am hoping to collect donations to support Timmy’s family during his treatment,” Moore said.  “I am currently student teaching at Nutter Fort Elementary and have sent book order forms to schools around the county. My hope is that, in addition to purchasing the book, I will also be able to lessen the financial burden for the Wilsons through donations.”

Wilson’s journey is well documented through his Facebook page @Prayersfortimmy and donations can be made to Timmy Wilson at https://www.gofundme.com/2bq383rc.  Checks are to be made out to Timmy Wilson.

The book, which costs $19.95, is available by contacting Moore at bamoore@mix.wvu.edu.  Checks for the book are to be made out to Studentreasures Publishing.  The book order forms and donations will be collected on November 10 and will be delivered in five or six weeks.

“Timmy and I have been friends for so long and I am so happy to be able to have a tangible way to comfort and encourage him,” Moore said.  “He brings so much happiness to so many people and now the community can give back to him and his family through their support.”
