BHS and BMS Students Psyching Up for Young Life and Wyldlife Camp; Fundraising In Progress

In the halls of Bridgeport High School, when someone mentions Young Life, a smile immediately creeps across faces as they reminisce about crazy games they’ve played or silly contests like Mr. Christmas Tree.  The group of high school students seemed to have found the perfect balance that incorporate fun and worship at the same time.  This weekend, they hosted their annual Dodgeball Tournament at The Gem in Shinnston and it did not disappoint.  The tournament is a one of a number of fundraisers led by Area Director Nathaniel Lutyens, affectionately referred to a “Looch” by the students.

“While fundraising is secondary to worship, we work on it all year to enable as many students as possible to attend Young Life Camp in Rockbridge, Virginia each summer,” said Lutyens.  “This year we have 30 high school students from Bridgeport High School who will be attending the week-long camp in July.”

The middle school version of the group, known as Wyldlife, has also been busy raising funds to send 35 students to their summer camp at NorthBay in Maryland.  Together, the groups have held a Spaghetti Dinner and sponsored the Dodgeball Tournament so far, but students are also looking for other ways to make the camp accessible for all.  “We plan to host a huge rummage sale on April 23 in front of Johnson Elementary School and we will start selling discount cards with restaurant coupons this month,” said Lutyens.

Additionally, students are willing to do odd jobs around town to raise money as well and anyone wishing to hire one or more of the student can contact Lutyens at nathaniellutyens@gmail.com.  “The camp is a life-changing experience and we are still accepting registrations for both camps, although space is limited.  We will also be offering a trip to Cedar Point for high school students who have attended camp in the past.”

Bridgeport High School Young Life has Club Meetings on Mondays and Campaigners Meetings on Wednesdays through April.  In May, Campaigners will continue, but will be on Mondays.  Bridgeport Middle School students will have Club on the first Friday of April and May will continue with small group times each month.  Additional information about camps can be fount at bit.ly/camptripinfo2016.
