It's Happening: A Blossoming Bridgeport? How Sweet It Is

By Julie Perine on April 13, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

People from all over the nation and world poured into Washington DC this weekend for the finale of the infamous Cherry Blossom Festival.

Annually, a million and a half individuals pass through the capital city to be part of festivities which revolve around those magnificent blossoms – which this year were predicted to peak between April 8 and 12. Forecasters hit the nail on the head and those attending this year experienced the festival in full bloom.

The celebration doesn’t stem from George Washington and his cherry tree story. In fact, it honors the friendship between our nation and Japan. Yes, in 1912, Tokyo’s Mayor Yukio Ozaki gifted the U.S – specifically the nation’s capital - 3,000 cherry trees – a sweet gesture, for sure.

I won’t lie.

I’d like to see it. But you know, we have a pretty gorgeous little city right here. I’m sure you noticed that Bridgeport’s cherry and pear blossoms absolutely burst over the past couple days. It's been a long-awaited spring, making the sites especially appealing.

Enjoy the photos at the link below. Some featured landmarks and city hot spots are beautiful alone, but even more so when framed by blossoms. I don’t think we could have picked a better place to live.
