In 2011, Taylor Lewis transitioned from a Bridgeport High School Indian to a Bethany College Bison. Located in West Virginia’s northern panhandle, the small college boasts some notable alumni including sportscaster Dave Simms, news anchor Faith Daniels and actors William Macy and Frances McDormand.

 

It was none of that, however, which swayed Lewis to pursue her post-secondary education at Bethany.

 

“The reason I decided to attend Bethany is because I wanted a small school, but with a lot of character,” she said. “When I toured here, the main building looked like Hogwarts from Harry Potter and I was sold!”

 

But Lewis’s personal highlight of the green and white came on Oct. 11, when as a senior psychology major, she was crowned 2014 Homecoming Queen.

 

“Being homecoming queen was actually a huge surprise! It was important to me because Bethany College is such a unique school. There isn't one thing I dislike about it. Being able to represent a really great college is the biggest honor.”

 

The selection process for queen was fairly simple, Lewis said.

 

“Girls send in a short application and if they meet the GPA requirements, they are on court,” she said. “From there, the school votes on the top five. After that, the school then votes on who they think should be homecoming queen.”

 

Lewis said she was quite honored to wear the crown and that those who knew her in high school may be surprised that she is so well known on campus.

“I was pretty quiet in high school actually,” she said.

 

She said she believes she found her niche when she decided upon Bethany College.

 

“The professors make the classes fun, the campus is beautiful all year round - and truthfully I can't think of one thing I dislike about this school,” she said. “After going here for four years, I wouldn't change my decision. Bethany is a great school with even greater people. The students, faculty, and professors are what makes this campus so awesome.”

 

Lewis said she completely loves the major which she chose and hopes to continue her study of clinical psychology, eventually receiving her doctorate.

 

She has also loved cheering on the Bison football team.

 

“I'm a huge football fan at Bethany! Our team is doing extremely well this year and even has a chance of going to a bowl game,” she said. “All of the guys on the team are great and work very hard to represent our college well.”
