Allegro Strings Offers Free Summer Orchestra Camp

By Trina Runner on May 17, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Thanks to a grant from the Clarksburg-Harrison Cultural Foundation, Allegro Strings Summer Orchestra will be offered free of charge this year.  Ashley Driscoll will be offering this opportunity July 6-10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Center in Stonewood. Last summer, the camp proved wildly successful as it honed the musical skills of dozens of students.

Session one, running from 9:00-12:00, is designed for those with little or no musical experience. Typically those in fourth and fifth grade, students will receive daily ensemble experience, aural skills, music appreciation and more.  A final performance for friends and family will  be given on July 10, giving students an opportunity to showcase the skills learned during the camp.

Session two is created for intermediate players with more than two years experience.  Daily lessons will include classical technique, ear training, chamber ensembles, conducting and introductions to various musical styles.

Students are to bring their own instruments to the camp or they can rent one for the five-day camp through Red Violin Shop on the first day.  The rental is also free of charge.  Driscoll will also be offering instrument fittings.

“It is so exciting to be able to offer this camp for free this year,” said Driscoll.  “It makes music accessible to everyone and we are so grateful to the Cultural Foundation for their generosity.”
